With 24 years of experience, this AGIP-Accredited Senior GI physiologist combines academic research, clinical expertise, and innovation to advance digestive health care.
Dr. Jafar Jafari is an expert in Gastrointestinal (GI) Physiology with extensive knowledge and expertise in his field. He holds a Medical Doctorate and a PhD in Neurogastroenterology from Queen Mary, University of London, and is an Accredited GI Physiology Practitioner. Dr. Jafari’s proficiency spans various advanced techniques, including high-resolution manometry, Sphincter of Oddi manometry, Hydrogen-Methane and C13 Breath Tests, EndoFlip, Bilitec, Galvanic Skin Response, Electrogastrography (EGG), and small bowel manometry.
Dr. Jafari is passionate about education and serves as a senior lecturer at King’s College London. He trains PhD students, mentors aspiring professionals, and educates GI physiologists through the Accredited Scientific Practice Programme in Upper GI Physiology, accredited by the National School of Healthcare Science (NSHCS). His dedication extends beyond academia as he offers training to international specialists via in-clinic sessions, webinars, seminars, and case study blogs. Dr. Jafari is committed to advancing GI Physiology knowledge and practice on both national and international platforms.
He has played an active role as a committee board member for the Association of GI Physiologists UK (AGIP), part of the British Society of Gastroenterology, and continually contributes to NHS England on national matters. Dr. Jafari also serves as a board member of various esteemed journals and acts as a clinical research advisor to multiple medical device manufacturers.
As the founder of GI Cognition, the first CQC-recognised mobile GI Physiology service in the UK, Dr. Jafari addresses the need for accessible healthcare. He operates the first “oesophageal” biofeedback therapy clinic in the NHS, a significant contribution that translates laboratory findings into clinical practice. Currently, he holds the position of Head of Upper GI Physiology Services at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust, one of the busiest physiology units in the UK, providing exceptional care and innovative solutions to patients with complex GI disorders.
